In what has been marked “A season for the ages”, on 2022 NASCAR Whelen Euroseries program will feature perhaps its most versatile slate yet. The season consists of twelve points heats across six tracks in as many countries, but the series also added two exhibition races: an all-star race in Italy and a special snow / ice exhibition race at the end. of the year.
“With some of the most iconic circuits and a revolutionary new NASCAR event on ice, the stage is set for an incredible EuroNASCAR season”, said the director of EuroNASCAR Jerome Galpin. âOur big circuit partners are already at work to welcome fans back to the track and offer them the best racing spectacle in Europe at major American festivals. After two difficult years, it’s really a pleasure to come together to share our passion for pure racing. “
The season will start at Ring of Hockenheim in Germany, which was on the program from 2017 to 2019 but never as the first race. Hockenheim was withdrawn in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ricardo Tormo Circuit, which has long been the opening site for the season (with the exception of 2020 for pandemic-related reasons), is pushed back to the second round. This is followed by Brands Hatch Indy Circuit layout, which has hosted the NWES for almost a decade.
Brands Hatch marks the conclusion of the first half of the season before an all-star event in Italy takes place over the summer. A precise place and date were not immediately provided, although the Vallelunga circuit near Rome is the site of the 2021 season finale.
The second half starts at Autodrom the most in the Czech Republic, which joined the series in 2020. The Zolder circuit marks the last race of the regular season.
The championship round will take place until the finals of EuroNASCAR in Grobnik Automotodrome. Double points will be awarded for the four sprint races.
Perhaps the most eye-catching addition is the introduction of an ice and snow playoff race, dubbed a âwinter classic,â at a currently undisclosed site. This will be the first time that an official NASCAR series has raced on such a surface. In April, Galpin drove a EuroNASCAR FJ around the Alain Prost Circuit in Val Thorens, France, which hosts the Andros Trophy ice racing series.
“The 2022 NASCAR Whelen Euro Series season promises to be one of the most exciting in series history,” commented NASCAR VP of International Affairs Chad Seigler. âRunning on some of Europe’s most iconic tracks, the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series continues to bring the full NASCAR experience to racing fans across Europe. “
