ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan region, Masrour Barzani, on Thursday received a written letter from Emmanuel Macron, expressing the gratitude of the French president for the treatment he received during his stay in the capital regional Erbil at the end of August.
The letter was hand-delivered by Olivier Decottignies, the consul general of France in the Kurdistan region, during a meeting with Barzani, according to a statement released by the regional government later in the day.
In the letter, Macron expressed his thanks to the “Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and his appreciation for the warm welcome he received during his visit to Erbil”.
On August 29, the French leader met with several KRG officials, including Prime Minister Barzani, President Nechirvan Barzani and Speaker of Parliament, Dr Rewaz Faiq Hussein.

“France and the regional government of Kurdistan have an old and unique relationship, and it must be maintained at a high level,” Macron wrote, quoted in the statement, adding that France will continue its “commitment to you, in the struggle. against terrorism and for economic and social development.
