Just 15 minutes ago, a magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck near Campo Gallo, Departamento de Alberdi, Santiago del Estero, Argentina. The tremor was recorded in the early evening on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, at 6:38 p.m. local time, at a great depth of 574 km below the surface.
The event was classified by the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ), the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the National Seismic Surveillance Network (RéNaSS) of France which listed the earthquake at a magnitude of 5.3. A third agency, the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC), reported the same 5.2 magnitude earthquake.

Based on its magnitude, the fault that was active during the earthquake ruptured along an area of ​​approx. 32 km² (= 12 square miles) as a prime estimate. The length of the rupture zone was therefore probably about 10 km (6 mi).
