Israel hosted air forces from seven countries in a biennial exercise called the Blue Flag. The last time the exercise took place was in 2019. That year, it included 725 people from Israel, the United States, Greece, Germany and Italy. This year, the United States, Germany, France, Italy, India, United Kingdom and Greece participated in the exercise alongside Israeli pilots and F-35 fighter jets. fifth generation.

It is important because it brings together the main Israeli partners and allies. Israel has become much closer to Greece in recent years. This is due to shared interests in the Eastern Mediterranean, including a planned pipeline. Israel also hosts the Noble Dina naval exercise which included Greece, France and Cyprus. Israel conducted joint F-35 fighter jet exercises, called Enduring Lightning, with the United States in 2020. This is part of a larger process that shows Israel is integrating into Central Command and Israel is normalizing its relations with the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, two countries which host American military bases. In July, Israel brought together drone operators from the United States, France, Italy, Germany and the United Kingdom for the Blue Guardian drone exercise.

The Blue Flag is another cornerstone of these growing relations between Israel and its allies. Israeli F-35 fighters participated alongside fighter jets from other countries.

Blue Flag is a biennial exercise that takes place at Ovda Air Base in southern Israel. As part of this year’s events, the German Air Force Commander flew over Jerusalem and visited the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial. The honorary flyby included joint training led by Israel Air Force Commander Major General Amikam Norkin and German Air Force Commander Lt. Gen. Ingo Gerhartz, according to the forces of Israeli defense. “The flyby passed over the Israeli Knesset building and ended over Malcha,” according to the Jewish News Syndicate.

“The commanders of the Israeli and German air forces also visited the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial center, where they visited the ‘Flashs of Memory’ photographic exhibition and participated in a memorial ceremony at the Hall of Remembrance,” according to the Jewish News Syndicate. “During the ceremony, the commanders lit the Eternal Flame and laid a commemorative wreath in honor of the victims of the Holocaust. ”

The exercise is one in a series of important meetings that Israel has held with foreign countries. Under the leadership of Israel’s new government, its relations with Sweden and Jordan have been repaired. In addition, a virtual meeting was organized with the US Secretary of State, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of India, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Israel. The Indian minister was then visiting Israel. “The ministers have decided to establish an international forum for economic cooperation,” according to a statement from the Israeli Foreign Ministry.

“[A]Around this virtual table there is a unique set of skills, knowledge and experiences that can be used to create the network that we all want to see created. . . I think the word we’re looking for here is ‘synergy’ because that’s what we’re going to try to create from this meeting – a synergy that will help us work together on infrastructure, digital infrastructure, transport, maritime security and other things that concern us all, ”said Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid.

On the defense front, Israeli defense companies continue to showcase cutting-edge technology. At Milipol in Paris, Israeli Rafael Advanced Defense Systems unveils two new cyber solutions. One solution is called Cyber Situation Awareness, which, according to the company, “collects and aggregates information from different infrastructure networks such as airports, railways or seaports, and networks of IT and OT exploitation to create a complete picture of current cyber threats “. A second system called Cyber Management System is a “single, holistic solution providing automated processes for reactive and proactive information gathering and incident response.” It enables analysis to identify threats and vulnerabilities before impact while simultaneously tracking incident response measures, ”according to a Rafael Advanced Defense Systems fact sheet.

Israel and its defense innovators have long understood that cyber intelligence and artificial intelligence are part of what will define war in the future. This is why Israel is also trying to incorporate the latest technologies into new programs such as the Carmel combat vehicle program. In the United States, a number of Israeli defense companies participated in the annual meeting of the Association of the United States Army. UBlue Flag is another cornerstone of this growing relationship between Israel and its allied military forces. Iision, which manufactures loitering ammunition, has signed an agreement with MAG Aerospace that will provide operational and training solutions for the Hero family of ammunition from stroll.

Israel Aerospace Industries was also present at AUSA and showcased their new Rex MK II autonomous vehicle, as well as a number of drones and loose ammunition. These include the Rotem, Harop and Green Dragon, as well as other ammunition. Boaz Levy, President and CEO of IAI, said, “IAI is delighted to participate in AUSA 2021. We have a long history of supporting US defense initiatives and working alongside the US defense industry to develop and provide advanced technologies. novelties. In the past year alone, IAI supplied 400 Wind Guard Radar systems for the US Army’s Abrams tanks.

“Our shared values of innovation, defense and economic development are the foundation of our successful collaboration, and IAI is excited about the opportunity to forge new partnerships and collaborations with local defense companies during AUSA.” said Levy. Rafael also showcased his Samson 30-millimeter integrated remote weapon station for light vehicles. The company said it was “equipped with hostile fire detection capabilities and the ability to respond quickly and efficiently via a fast and precise rotation mechanism.” It also includes a unified user interface for all subsystems, an inherent hatch for close situational awareness, and under-armor ammo loading that increases lethality. These abilities allow the Samson to transform a light vehicle into deadly power comparable to a main battle tank. ”

Meanwhile, Israel’s Smart Shooter, which manufactures a fire control system for rifles, announced a new deal with the US Marine Corps. The systems will be delivered by the Israeli company later this fall.

Overall, Israel’s history of hosting Exercise Blue Flag and its participation in events such as Milipol and AUSA is part of the growing arc of Israeli relations and also of how its innovations defense continue to play a key role in the United States, Europe and elsewhere. Although Israel does not manufacture large platforms like the F-35 fighter jet, it continues to manufacture key components for new generation aircraft, missiles and vehicles. For example, Elbit Systems plays a role in helmets for F-35 fighter jets and had delivered, alongside Collins Aerospace, a thousand helmets by 2019. IAI manufactures wing covers for F fighter jets -35. Rafael partnered with Raytheon on the Iron Dome system, two batteries of which were delivered to the United States. This means that more and more, when pilots arrive in Israel for exercises like Blue Flag, they are familiar with Israeli technology and its place on the future battlefield.
