Man City star Riyad Mahrez set to star as RAP STAR on hit French TV show Valide

RIYAD MAHREZ will become the last footballer to try his hand at acting as he plays a rapper on French television.

The Manchester City winger is friends with Franck Gastambide, who produces the Canal Plus Valide program.

The drama centers around the rap scene in France, with many real-life stars taking part in it.

Mahrez, 30, almost filmed an episode before his engagements with City scuttled the plan.

However, the Paris-born Algeria international could still play a role in the series in the future.

Gastambide, 42, said: “Riyadh and I have mutual friends, and he called me during the lockdown last year.

“He told me he liked the show. I said, ‘Come on, and we’ll do something together for this.’

“Riyadh was supposed to be in season 2. The problem was that with him playing for Manchester City, he couldn’t come and record.

“We were hoping he would be able to hold out until the last moment.

“But in the end, it couldn’t be done.”

Football stars who dabble in comedy have become a clear path, with Eric Cantona and Vinnie Jones particularly successful.

Frank Leboeuf also played a cameo role in Theory of Everything, while Stan Collymore starred in Basic Instinct 2.

Mahrez has appeared in six of Man City’s eight Prem games this season, but has only started twice.

He played 90 minutes against League One team Wycombe Wanderers in the EFL Cup, scoring twice in a 6-1 beating.

City boss Pep Guardiola has sometimes favored Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus on the right wing this season, limiting Mahrez to substitute appearances.

But the former Leicester man remains an important player for the Cityzens, having made 152 appearances in just over three seasons at the club.

Mahrez would not be the first footballer to cross paths with rap, after former Real Madrid star Royston Drenthe hung up his boots for a career in music in 2018.

Barcelona ace Memphis Depay has also been releasing music since 2017, with his latest release, the “Heavy Stepper EP” which was only released last year.
