Olympic medalist Nikita Ducarroz will visit the city on Saturday January 15, will be recognized at a public event in front of the city hall

Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Nikita Ducarroz will visit his hometown and be honored by the city of Sonoma at an event in front of the city hall located at No.1 Sonoma Plaza on Saturday January 15, 2022 in 2:00 p.m., Sonoma Mayor Jack Ding. and members of the city council will be on hand to help celebrate Ducarroz’s Olympic achievements. The public is invited to attend.

Nikita Ducarroz, who grew up in the nearby town of Glen Ellen, represented her father’s native Switzerland and won the bronze medal in women’s BMX freestyle cycling at the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games. Now also a silver medalist at the champions of the world in France and gold medalist at the European BMX Championships in Moscow, she catapulted herself to world leader in her field.

“We are very proud of what Nikita has been able to accomplish at the Tokyo Olympics, World Champions and European BMX Championships,” said Sonoma City Mayor Jack Ding. “Nikita has become a legend in BMX freestyle cycling, and it is an honor to celebrate all of her medals. His skills and dedication are a source of inspiration.

The recognition of the city is one of the many events celebrating Ms. Ducarroz on January 15th. The festivities begin with a Devils Darlin’s Car Cruise that starts at 1:15 p.m. at Eldridge, passes through Glen Ellen, Springs and ends at the Sonoma Plaza “Horseshoe” in front of Town Hall at 2:00 p.m. The public is invited to exit at any point along the course to cheer on the local Olympian as she passes. After the ceremony in the square, Ms Ducarroz and her trainer, Daniel Wedemeijer, will head to the Picazo Kitchen & Bar located at 19101 Sonoma Hwy in the Maxwell Village shopping center for a meet and greet after 3pm.
