At today’s G7 summit in Germany, Prime Minister Boris Johnson and French President Macron met.
The President had generously congratulated Her Majesty The Queen on her Jubilee, and the Prime Minister began by thanking her.
The Ukrainian conflict was mentioned by the leaders. They agreed that the war is at a turning point and there is a chance to turn the tide of the battle.
Both the Prime Minister and President Macron stressed the importance of helping Ukraine in order to increase their influence in the conflict and in the ensuing negotiations.
The leaders decided to accelerate this effort after President Macron thanked the prime minister for his continued military assistance to Ukraine.
The prime minister stressed that any attempt to resolve the dispute now would only lead to lasting unrest and give Putin permission to influence sovereign nations and global markets indefinitely.
The leaders decided to maintain and strengthen the close cooperation between the UK and France in sectors such as security and defence.
