France has hinted that its strict UK travel ban could be relaxed as countries begin to lift their Covid restrictions on Britons traveling.
Members of the French ministerial cabinet have agreed to allow essential workers to enter the country, despite more than 330,000 new cases recorded within its borders.
French government spokesman Gabriel Attal acknowledged that the news would be a relief for many people wishing to travel to France on a professional basis after the extension of the “list of compelling reasons, in particular professional”.

It states that all arrivals must have a “fundamental reason for traveling to or coming from the UK, both unvaccinated and vaccinated”.
Initially, the list of essential reasons did not include leisure travel or business reasons, but the latest ruling reintroduced the latter as the appropriate reason for travel.
Britain is now also taking steps to make travel easier, including removing some pre-departure and post-departure tests for UK arrivals.

Changes to these rules do not apply to unvaccinated passengers.
The isolation rule has also been removed for passengers with a full vaccination passport, meaning they can travel freely upon landing, provided their lateral flow is not positive.

The British are still banned from a number of countries and remain on the red list of others, including Cyprus.
